Mitros, a wealthy and respected chief shepherd, falls for the beautiful Kroustallo and gives her a golden cross as a token of his affection. However, he is unaware that she is secretly in love with Liakos, a poor young shepherd who once saved Mitros' life. The discovery of the golden cross around Kroustallo's neck sparks a bitter conflict between the two men, threatening the future of the star-crossed lovers.

This 1955 version is a remake of the 1932 film, which was the first Greek "talking" picture.

The film features the iconic song "Mia Voskopoula Agapisa," though in this version, the lyrics are recited as a monologue by Thanos Kotsopoulos while the melody plays as an orchestral theme.
