: Years prior, two sisters who could see Mushi, Aya and Ito , were apprenticed to an old man to help maintain this mail system. They were warned never to create fully enclosed spaces, as Uro would multiply rapidly and could drag a human into their "Uroana" (hollow passageways). While Ito was napping, a bedsheet blew over her, creating an enclosed space that caused her to vanish into the Uro passageways.

: Ginko takes Aya into an Uro passageway to show her the infinite, soul-erasing hollows, urging her to stop her "fool's errand" for her own health. Years later, a girl (Ito) is discovered alive inside a cocoon during a silk harvest, carrying one of Aya's letters, and is finally reunited with her sister.
