He heard a soft click from the hallway. The sound of a closet door sliding open. Elias didn't turn around this time. He looked at the monitor instead. The footage was high-definition, shot from a static perspective. It took Elias a moment to recognize the location. It was a bedroom. A messy desk, a spinning chair, and a man sitting with his back to the camera, illuminated by the blue glow of two monitors. Elias felt a cold spike of adrenaline hit his stomach. The man in the video was him. He was watching a live feed of himself, from a camera mounted somewhere on the wall behind him.
As the progress bar crawled forward, the temperature in the room seemed to drop. When the download finished, he extracted the folder. Inside were hundreds of video files, all named with dates and timestamps. He opened the most recent one.
Elias clicked on an older file from three nights ago. It showed him sleeping. A figure emerged from the closet—tall, draped in a heavy black robe, wearing the iconic, elongated white mask of Ghost Face. The figure didn't attack. It simply stood over him for four hours, tilting its head occasionally, watching him breathe.
