Jálale means taking accountability for the first step. During my junior year, I noticed that the community center in my neighborhood lacked resources for digital literacy among older residents. Many saw the problem, but few took action. Embracing the spirit of jálale , I started a weekly workshop, turning my frustration into a structured program. The first session had only two attendees, but by pulling—by putting in the effort and asking others to join—the program grew to support dozens of seniors. It taught me that initiative is the bridge between a good intention and a tangible result.

At Yale, I hope to continue this tradition of initiative. I look forward to joining a community that does not just discuss solutions but actively jálale —pulls—towards them.
