Set in New York City between 2000 and 2001, the story follows an unnamed protagonist who is young, beautiful, and wealthy, yet profoundly apathetic. Following the death of her parents and the dissolution of a toxic relationship, she decides to "hibernate" for a year by sleeping as much as possible, assisted by a massive cocktail of prescription drugs.
