Tearoom -

"Tearoom" refers both to a traditional hospitality venue serving tea and light meals [31, 32] and to the "Tearoom Trade," a 1970 sociological study by Laud Humphreys on anonymous sexual encounters in public restrooms [1, 20]. Humphreys' study, which involved covert observation and tracking participants, remains a pivotal, controversial example of ethical violations in research [3, 21, 22]. Modern tearooms, in contrast, are characterized as quiet spaces for socialization and, as highlighted in examples like the Tearoom by Calmplex, often feature minimalist or cozy, sanctuary-like aesthetics [29, 36].
