The story picks up immediately after high school graduation, with Elle facing a life-altering choice: attend to be with her boyfriend, Noah, or fulfill her lifelong pact to attend UC Berkeley with her best friend, Lee. To make the most of their final summer, the trio moves into the Flynn family's beach house, which is being sold.
