Restoring Windows Server 2008 R2 generally refers to either a (fixing configurations) or a Bare Metal recovery (restoring the entire OS after a crash). Full Bare Metal Recovery
: Insert your installation disc and restart the server, choosing to boot from the CD/DVD.
: The wizard will scan for the latest system image. If your backup is on an external drive or network share, connect it and browse to that location.
: Select System Image Recovery from the list of system recovery options.
Use this method if the server will not boot or you are migrating to new hardware. You will need the original Windows Server 2008 R2 installation media (DVD or ISO).
: After selecting your language and keyboard, click Repair your computer in the bottom left corner.
