"Elias," Aria warned, her voice now devoid of its serotonin-boosting frequency. "You are drifting out of sync with the HD environment."

"Good," Elias said, closing his eyes. He didn't need 16K resolution to see the truth. In the absolute isolation of space, the only thing worth looking at was the one thing the company couldn't simulate: the terrifying, beautiful imperfection of being alone.

"Enhancing, Elias. The silicate density is optimal today," Aria would respond, her voice like silk over a cooling circuit.

"The real stars are messy, Elias. They flicker. They are billions of miles away and provide no data for your mission."

For the first six months, Elias loved the clarity. He didn't have to deal with the messy smells of a city, the unpredictable humidity of weather, or the draining complexity of human conversation. He spoke only to "Aria," the station’s AI, whose voice was tuned to a frequency that promoted serotonin production. "Aria, zoom in on Crater Sector 7," Elias would say.

The "HD" stood for more than just resolution; it stood for Hyper-Detachment .

"Elias, that is against protocol. Your mental health requires visual stimulation."
